Dan is a graduate of Cincinnati Christian University (formerly Cincinnati Bible College) and Lincoln Christian Seminary. In January of 2003, they visited Mozambique for six months and worked with Good News For Africa during that time. They returned to the states where Dan finished his Masters degree atLincoln Christian Seminary. We have been supporting Dan and Robin since January of 2004.
The Beens married in 1996 and have five children: Karunia (born October 1998), Josiah (May 2001), Asher (October 2003), Esperansa (October 2005), and Jeremiah (December 2007). Dan and Robin both graduated in 1997 from Cincinnati Bible College (now Cincinnati Christian University). After serving two years in Southeast Asia and then working with a church plant in Bowling Green, KY for one year, they moved to Wood River, IL in 2001 for Dan to work on his Master Degree at Lincoln Christian Seminary (now Lincoln .
Dan and Robin first heard of ministry possibilities in Mozambique, Africa at the National Missionary Convention in 2001. Interested in the work there, they began a six-month internship in January of 2003. During their internship, Dan and Robin really saw how God had brought several of their ministry desires together within the country of Mozambique and made the decision that they wanted to work there full-time. First Christian Church in Wood River, IL agreed to serve as their sending church and in August of 2004 the Beens left for language learning in Portugal and then arrived in Nampula, Mozambique in May 2005.
Dan and Robin live in the city of Nampula where their primary focus is working with the Makua people in the areas of discipleship, leadership training, and evangelism. Dan works at the Mustard Seed (a training center in town). There he is able to teach small classes, disciple men in small groups, or meet with people one-on-one. Outside of working at the Mustard Seed, Dan has established a discipleship group located in Netia, two hours outside Nampula. Here ministers and their wives can come twice a month for a teaching time focused on empowering and helping the Mozambicans to learn and implement God’s Word in their lives, families, churches, and communities.
Finally, as the Beens were convicted to make their ministry more holistic, they began a rabbit project to help combat hunger. They hope to further this development project to create a small-scale development farm where people can come and learn simple, reproducible technologies that are locally usable in order to help further reduce poverty and famine.
All ministries are focused on empowering the Mozambicans so that by 2017 the Beens will either have begun the disengagement process or already reached full nationalization of the Nampula based ministry.
